should you invest in product photography as a start up business?

...a lot of people find that at some point they need images of product, or better images.

They may have to produce photos or to pay to have them done.

So should you invest in product photography as a start-up business?

As a product photographer I would say YES!, but as a consultant, I would say it depends...

To communicate with your audience, you need to produce content.

When produced correctly, this will help create a relationship with your audience, which leads to trust.

You want to give your customers a good user experience across all your channels, by being consistent with your content.

Your brand voice, your product and prices, along with your product photography must all be at the same level.

Imagine you’re selling nutritious pet food made of organic ingredients, your brand voice and your product photography should match the quality of your ingredients, recipe and the premium price of your product.

In this example, you can’t expect people to buy the food at a premium price if your product photography is poorly directed and poorly lit.

Whether you have an expensive or a more affordable product, with limited resources, today, creating content for your audience has never been more achievable.

With a good camera (that can even come built in on some flagship smartphones) and a well-lit room, you can produce really good shots of your products, always ensuring to keep your intended customers in mind.

What you must not have is an expensive product that isn't matched by the quality of your content.

You also must avoid to put out high quality product photography that sets expectations which are not fulfilled by what people actually receive.

I love the art of storytelling through product photography.

As a consultant watching a brand establishing a connection with their customers, adds a human touch to the environment, which makes them want to stick around.

LEVERAGE

YOUR CUSTOMER's

CONTENT

For example: if you need help creating your content, don’t hesitate to call out your most pleased customers.

Ask them kindly to take photos or videos while enjoying your product and add those to your website and social media.

The aim of business is to always be genuinely helpful to your customers.

Because in the end, no one will care about how good your photography is, if your product doesn't touch people's hearts. :)
